Here's a pewter pitcher I left on the thrift store floor,(hopefully I'm not out big bucks). I'm a pewter rube-don't get much in the PNW.Also the stamps don't make any sense to me. I know our friends in the UK get lots more if this stuff.Any opinions on this piece-did I blow it or save $20 for gas money ?
    PS-I think it was about 10" high. Pewt1.jpg Pewt2.jpg

You saved your money. That many punches makes no sense. I'm not even sure it's actually pewter.

What did it feel like? Was it fairly heavy?

It doesn't seem to be able to decide if it has 70% tin content or 85%.

Wow, someone was having a bad day while stamping that. I would have passed that by too. Hard enough to identify things sometimes without having to guess what all the stamps are.

Not quite sure what I'm seeing from the bottom photo. That is the bottom isn't it?

I think I see some large initials which might be the owner. One little symbol might be part of the maker. The others, somewhere in the back of my head, I think measures had to be certified in some locales. I know they used crowned ruler marks but I'm wondering if somewhere they had to stamp the year it passed (or something) as it sort of looks like successive numbers (years?)

I'd not have spent $20 myself. It's one of those things I'd might have brought home for a dollar or two if i couldn't solve it while there in the store. I like trying to solve things for my own head.

Thanks All !-It was moderately heavy but all those arbitrary punches seemed absurd.
SOS-I would've laid out a fiver for it & found a nice site in the garden .
