    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

There I was minding my own business, on the way home from a job, and I spy a "3 family estate sale", whatever that might be. It was big, and just opening, so I pulled over and looked around. I had no luck at all at the last few such outings, but I was just IN THE MOOD! I hurried around the whole thing quickly (to see if anything really jumped out at me), and I ran across this pretty little mirror for 55 dollars. Now I don't know exactly WHAT it is, but a few things about it made me figure it was well worth 55 bucks! I bought it.

There is a bit of silvering loss at the very bottom left, along with a nearby chip in the trim, which I will be able to camouflage or repair, I'm sure.

It's 28 inches tall, 14 at the widest.

Oh, man, I was so eager to show it that I didn't clean it!

Just now, I Googled my best guesses for descriptors... "1930 reverse etched applied gesso mirror" and some similar ones popped up alright!! I know a few styles that it's NOT, but... what IS it, please?

You are right on target as far as date and description. The design is neo-classical, vaguely French, part of the traditional hodge-podge of 30s décor. I think what you paid is probably low retail. I could see this priced a bit higher in some stores. It would go at auction for less.

Thanks, KoT - I'm on Paleo and suddenly craving tough french rolls!

Primitive, not very stable book stand? Only the top part folds. It's not really stable enough to put a large dictionary or bible on...... odd.

Whatever this stand is, I love it!

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

Thanks, Brad, very very much. Now I'm feeling somewhat competent in basic furniture analysis. This could be dangerous.

Scout, that table is COOLIO. Makes me think of the Empire State Building. Sheet music holder, maybe?

    Is that not crazy??

Maybe it shipped flat from a catalog, and the customer assembled it? The top expands/stretches up to 20 inches, easily.

But as I sit here, it works really well for a smaller book - you can put it quite close, and it's also very easy to move aside. Super portable. :)

Gila, I'm sorry - I thought I was posting this to "Finds"

Now I'm confused. I searched the entire forum for "Finds" and ended up a page or two before your mirror. It's in two places?

No worries here... yes, I posted it in Finds but it raced by and nobody saw it. My bad, actually.

i KNOW! I'm experimenting - I usually don't post much of my own, and just concentrate on Recent Topics when I have time to look, but I do miss a lot of good discussions on separate forums.

So, today I posted in the appropriate forum (quickly gone from Recent Topics), and mentioned I was posting several in General because I think people hang out there to catch up. Then saw yours and tried "Finds!" for the stand.

Thanks for clearing that up! :) Probably best to stay in the right forum/topic!

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

Thank you so much! It found an easy home in the dining room as you head towards the kitchen and then garage, so you can give your 'do a last check before leaving!

Did they do the stamps (like there is stamp with numbers) in the Period Art Nouveau?
