I got this at a boot sale at the weekend for 20p. Don't expect it's got any value, just interested to know what it was used for and approx age. It's metal underneath(magnetic) with a black coating. Round base with no flat

    Cheers

It looks nicely made. Maybe Oaxaca, Mexico?

    Are you sure it's metal?

It certainly looks like a Mexican black pottery bowl from Oaxaca, which has been exposed to dampness and has lost part of its burnished slip coating. If so, it would have been made primarily as a souvenir, and in this condition, has minimal resale value.

If you're sure it's metal, can you make it ring by rubbing the rim (like people do with wine glasses)?

Looks like a singing bowl, not sure it would sing with a coating on it and it looks very thin.

I take it, it didn't work. Worth a try though. Singing bowls (chokra bowls) do exist.

Cavendish Laboratories in UK has reported a missing 6th phase hyperdrive cathode shell with description closely matching your bowl. There is a reward for its return. It is missing from their Cockroft-Walton accelerator.

    Nah, just kiddin!

Now that would be interesting !! Not sure if you're joking or not !!!

Wouldn't' something like that have to connecting recesses or areas where it would need to be joined to something

This is pretty much entirely rounded
