From searching around I have concluded it’s a “money pot” feng shui type of deal. No maker marks and appears to be cast. Was able to read a few of the coin markings and some are from the mid 1700’s during the Qing dynasty and a couple others are from the early 1900’s. Been in salt water for a long time.
If anyone recognizes the style on it so I have more of a lead on the origin that would be great thanks!

Welcome Green2222! I wouldn’t use anything harsher than a q-tip or very soft toothbrush on any of it. Even the badly corroded stuff, until someone who is a coin expert looks at them. I know a lot of sailors, and I’ve heard too many horror stories about folks finding things and then cleaning away anything that could identify them or their provenance.

Speaking of which, I’m dreadfully curious about where they were found, and if you documented the find.

Hey thanks! Yeah I agree about the cleaning I kinda like the way they look.
Stopped by a garage sale and it caught my eye. Not much was known about it except it was “really old” and was in a fountain for a number of years

With the large size, it might have been a temple censer. Kinda' large for a home. As for the coins, the previous owner might have used the censer as a large, very large trinket dish, and the coins may have been collected during the time the censer was acquired. I'd bet, many of us have foreign coins from travels stashed in objects around our abode. The true story is lost to history.:)
