This was sold as an some sort of animal bone that was used as a tool by the Inuit People. Any thoughts on the type of animal and what it may have been used for? The bone is about 4 1/8" long. Thanks in advance!

Also known as a "baculum", it is present in many species (but not humans - be thankful ladies ).

The Inuit do make use of the bacula of some species:
"Oosik - Oosik is a term used in Native Alaska cultures to describe the bacula of walruses, seals, sea lions and polar bears. Sometimes as long as 60 cm (24 in), fossilized bacula are often polished and used as a handle for knives and other tools. The oosik is a polished and sometimes carved baculum of these large northern carnivores.
Oosiks are also sold as tourist souvenirs. In 2007, a 4.5 ft-long (1.4 m) fossilized penis bone from an extinct species of walrus, believed by the seller to be the largest in existence, was sold for $8,000."

If an Inuit had it,the racoon must have been an illegal immigrant since raccoons are not native to Alaska.

I’ve seen one or two more normal sized ones go for decent money at auctions. One had an inscription like “Alaska Souvenir 1927” or something kind of similar to that on it, it did pretty well. I think I bid just for the hell of it but didn’t get it.

    Hi,
I have several of these. When I lived near West Virginia the mountain boys used to sell them along the road. I think they used to say they were love potions.
