Old bedspread - what kind of fabric is this?

I got this bedspread and two matching shams the other day. The all green fabric is satin (I'm pretty sure), but what is the floral fabric? It is ribbed. I ask because there is a fairly large area that is discolored and I'd like to clean it. I'm not sure you can see it in the photos. I know, you'll probably say leave it alone and let the buyer do it, but I'm thinking of keeping it.
Also - am I right in thinking that the foot of the spread is much shorter to accommodate a chest or bench to sit on? I got another set with this one - really frou -frou - puffy peach shiny embroidered satin, and it also has the shortened foot. Of course they could both be home or custom made for a particular bedroom.

Are there 3 long sides & 1 short, or 2 long & 1 short? Dumb question from someone who has never owned a bedspread of this type. There's a fabric name lurking in the deep wells of my memory. Something French, but only grosgrain wants to come up.

It arose from the depths but don't think it's right: matelassé. Maybe twill is it.

There's long ruffles on both sides, a short ruffle on the end, and nothing on the top.

I'll look up both fabrics Bronwen - thanks!

How about to accommodate a foot board?

Oh - a foot board. Yes - that makes total sense.

I'm thinking not matelasse. I have one of those - much thicker weave and no need for "quilting." Maybe rayon?

    Rayon was my first thought.

If rayon, would it be described as ribbed rayon? The fabric is very substantial.

I found this fabric online. It is described as vintage 1940s decorator fabric, rayon and cotton.

What about faille? A structured, ribbed finish that has the look grosgrain ribbon; usually mid-weight with substantial body - according to My Vintage Clothing.

I remember that type of fabric. Thick and satiny. More of a drapery fabric.
I don't think it is cotton. Other than that I can't help.

No - the fabric I linked to is not barkcloth - just a similar print.

What do you think about faille?
