Old Asian Scribes / Artists Bamboo Pen / brush holder ???

    komokwa The Truth is out there...!

    At least that's the best I could come up with.

    I bought it cuz it's beautiful , in a calm elegant way.
    There's ink staining on the bottom interior as well as writing inside the lid.
    Fit's like a glove , and shows honest long term use.
    And then there's the wax seal , which I believe to be a Chinese Gov't mark.
    It's somewhat darker than the hot lights show it to be.

    That's what I think I know......does someone know more....or different ??

    Chinese brush-pens are called "Mao Bi" ("Mao" = Hair/Fur. "Bi" = Pen/Pencil. So literally hair-pen or brush).

    Likely, this probably belong to a calligrapher, if that's the case. My grandfather was a Chinese calligrapher and I could imagine him owning something like this.

    Hi,
    Great piece. The gov't wax seal was put on items that were antique but not considered national treasures so it was okay for export.
