Is this brass. I think it is brass. It looks like it has been repaired on the spout and does it even go together like this. The owner said it did but really? Is this another one of those Turkish Coffee Pots? ;-) LOL!

Okay never mind so maybe it is a Russian coffee urn/teapot. When in doubt it seems to always be coffee. LOL!

    It looks like brass.

And yes it is a Samovar.
There should be a tube down the inside center. That is where the hot coals went to heat the water. The teapot does indeed sit on top.

That's so weird with the spout on the larger portion and a bowl to catch the water, I guess... Why wouldn't you just pour it out. I am going to have to look up how this is used because I can't really picture it. :)

If you have a magnet, touch the piece. If it sticks, it's not brass. Non-ferrous metals will not take a magnet. Gold-Silver-brass-copper etc.

It's pretty big probably about 2 feet tall. That sounds about right.

    Brass samovar. Yes indeed.

The cistern holds the hot water with a pipe or rod down the middle which is filled with charcoal to heat it. The teapot at the top holds concentrated tea. The tea concentrate is poured into glasses or cups, and then it's diluted with water from the cistern. Or something like that. I don't remember exactly.

Many videos on youtube how to use it with wood or with fir cones. The tea from Самовар is unbelievable yummy! Here is some over 100 years old song about Samovar and parts from Russian comedies. You don't need to understand it. It is just fun. / From Russia with Love :)
