At an estate sale this morning I found this.
It was hiding behind a framed print. Cheap print and frame but i saw the painting edges behind it so I bought it hoping there was something nice behind it.
    10" x 13" And signed lower right.
    Looks like Mullen or Something?????
Do i have something good for a change?

Quite a thing for someone to hide. I like it. Looks better than usual for kind of thing.

(I have to wear my glasses when threading a needle.)

Sorry Shiloh, I tossed the print before i got home and the frame i broke it up after. Just a calendar cheap farm scene print in a cheap pine frame painted antique gold. the print didn't even fit so you could see the painting behind on the edges.

The oil is lovely, the more I look at it the more the detail pops out :) Love the yellow parakeet in the bird cage :)

Great research Terry. I was going to guess Swiss or Tyrolean 1930s and probably a gallery or museum artist. The whistling bachelor mending his garments while the bachelor canary whistles behind him.

Hidden since WWII behind an inconsequential print and found by Mikey.

Hmm Might want to make sure it wasn't a stolen artifact.

I am not sure about it being stolen, But i do know it was a steal for the price I paid.
I had no idea he was whistling Until you said something lilfont. thanks.

I was only teasing :), because it was hidden behind another print. Also, the artist seems to be from either Germany or Vienna.

He might be whistling, but I think he's just concentrating. Whatever works.

I think the print did you a favor by protecting the paint surface. Looks like new.

    Thanks rro and moreotherstuff,
I did clean it a bit before the last pic. There is still some issue's on the boarder edge about 1/4". from the old frame I guess. But otherwise it is almost perfect.
My contact at Clars auction estimates 500 to 700.
But I am thinking maybe this would sell well on the Bay.
I would hate to pay the 25% fee for the auction also when the other is only 10%.

I'd contact a European auction house and go for the thousands

    You really think so terry?
I would be extremely happy with 700 and no hassles

Great Find!! I like it :) I don't think you will ever make as much on ebay as you would at an Auction house!
And you are less apt to have to deal with "Hassles" through an auction house as Ebay,...Returns, Defects, item not as described, the list goes on. jhmo. ebay is not a friendly place anymore.
