I just got this little planter of a bear - or possibly a pig. It's three inches tall and is made of very white unglazed clay. There are faint traces of rgeen paint on the body. Any thoughts on the maker or origin?

    TIA, Lynnie bearodd1.jpg

    Hola, and welcome, Lynnie!
There are plenty of pottery/clay brainiacs here... I'm sure they'll be along soon!
I think PIGGIE, due to what looks like cloven hooves.
    Good luck!

Well, she looks to be a "see no evil" pig. Whether along the lines of this one:

(a salt shaker) or from another source, I don't know, but if you google "see no evil pig" you'll find a number of different ones.

But is he/she/it a "blank" -- because if he/she/it is any kind of "shaker" (salt/pepper/sugar/cinnamon) is he/she/it "sitting" on his/her/its "holes"?

And what makes it a "planter" (referring to your title for this thread)? Where is an opening for a "plant"?

Or did you mean those little whimsical ceramic figurines that people used to put in a pot/planter with their live indoor plants?

It looks to me like it was painted and most of the paint has worn away.

No, it's really a planter, with an opening in the back--not a pot knick-knack.

    HI, Lynnie. Welcome.

I see what you mean. Bear's ears, pig's feet.

Just a hint. On anything else, please more pictures. Especially Glass and Pottery, all sides and definitely bottoms. And in cases like this one - the back especially.

See no evil? Definitely agree. Maybe there are two more out there. (Or three more? I like my monkey foursome. See no evil, hear no, say no, and do no.)

Those planters are plentiful and can usually be found at yard/tag sales for a dollar or two. Bring us some more challenges. We want to see you again, soon.
