I collect for myself, but do not have a huge budget. I do not enjoy overspending either!! Thinking of purchasing one of these, both similar in price (around $700). Thoughts on value? Thanks! 20220119_121716.jpg 20220119_122519.jpg

Just my opinion but even if the barley twist table was Payne, Merklen Brothers or Hunzinger, I would only pay around $300. The Victorian market is pretty soft here in Georgia. i should have noted that $300 was retail. At auction it would sell for around $150 - if that.

I would cautiously offer 350$ on the first one.
I would offer $100 on the second one, but it's not my cup of tea.
I take it these are priced in an "antiques store" ?
Furniture prices depend a lot upon where you live. North Carolina is the brown wooden furniture capitol of the mainland USA, so you have great choice in your state. I may go as high as $400 on the first one IF I could really use it.

Both are pieces you could build a whole room around, especially the second one. They'd both look awesome in a more minimalist modern decorator style or in the newer resurgence of the more ornate interiors. (look at me talking as though I'm an expert decorator.) Figuring that both are solid oak and probably at least partially hand-carved, you couldn't get a similar modern piece for under $1000, so if you can get either or both for a decently discounted price they're worth nabbing.

Too high for my Midwest market but convenience could be worth a lot if you like them and need one. As noted, new would cost significantly more. Is top on second one seriously warped? Would look for a serious discount if plan to move on either one.

Do remember... With most "brown" furniture, It's a buyer's market.
