The treasure belongs to the 'Land'. or state, of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Some other German states have a finder's fee, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern doesn't. So the boy and his companion get fame and glory.:)
Someone calculated the pure silver value as being just 72 euro, but the treasure is worth more of course.
Treasures are found regularly on the German islands, last year it was on Sylt, this year Rügen. The Sylt treasure also contained Anglo-Saxon and Middle Eastern coins.
My Hiddensee replicas are part of the same story as the treasure now found on Rügen (possibly the Sylt one too), the flight of 10th century Danish king Harald Bluetooth and his followers to Northern Germany. Apparently they buried their valuables along the way, hoping to retrieve them later on.
As we can see now, few managed to return, or they just couldn't find the spot anymore.

Wow, I've never heard of the Cheapside Hoard, what an amazing find! Thank-you for turning me onto this Kyratango:)
Thanks for the link AJ:) I've just watched both parts, totally mind boggling to see all the pretties that were buried for so long! That scent bottle at the end of part 2 is stunning!
