I have some cup & saucer sets for sale. They are Buy It Now sales. I woke up this morning to see one had sold but was not paid for. I thought that if a buy it now wasn't paid for immediately, it remained up for sale until payment was received? My listing was closed.

Book, unless you tick the "require immediate payment" thingie, it will close when someone hits Buy It Now.
If you do require the payment, I think then it stays open until it is paid for.

I don't see the point. Suppose you sell something, someone comes along and buys it but doesn't pay immediately... the listing stays open, so someone else comes along and buys and does pay immediately. You've now sold the item twice. Does eBay automatically cancel the first sale, or are you just on the hook for a neg from one of the buyers?

The first persons "click" is like it never happened.
No one likes to wait around forever while someone decides if they can find something cheaper.

But it say the item's closed - I don't think anyone else can see it to buy it.

Not now they can't, but in the future, if you click "Require immediate payment when buyer uses Buy It Now", it should remain open until they pay.

I just did a buy-it-now on something and this is what is says on the screen that pops up. So I think if someone else could find the item they could buy it until I completed the checkout process.

Yep, I've BIN'ed quite a few auctions like that before. It's pretty obvious that if you don't do the payment right then that you haven't "won" the item.

Thanks all. She didn't respond to two invoices so I ended up opening a case - then she paid. I hate doing that. :(

Requiring immediate payment is a very good way to insure that someone won't buy multiple items from you

When I do have stuff listed, most of my stuff is so different from my other stuff listed, that I doubt anyone would look at it, much less buy it.
And since I always have free shipping, it wouldn't matter to them anyway.
For every good reason to do something, someone else can come up with some odd reason not to.

messi - you Do make me laugh! Haven't thought of "thinkle peep" in a long time, but the above is spot on. Of course, knowing that I understood it immediately, calls my own almost-solecisms into question!

I know this thread is old, but...

Sometime back, maybe a year ago, eBay implemented a mandatory "immediate payment required" that's applied inconsistently. If I remember correctly, initially they rolled it out based on who the buyer was, but I think they made it sound like it was going to end up being applied to all listings. Or maybe all listings in some categories. As far as I know, it's still an inconsistent thing.

Shortly after they started implementing it, I had a few buyers pay separately for multiple items that didn't have free shipping. It was a pain to deal with since I offered discounted s/h for multiple item purchases, and I pulled most of my listings that often were bought with other items (beads and buttons).

I wondered if it's application depends upon the buyer's history... like if they had x number of UIDs opened against them? If so, in those instances it might be a good thing.
