Whilst clearing out the attic of a family members home I found various ceramics including a coffee set as shown in the attached photo. Most are well known UK makers and others simply marked FOREIGN. In case of this particular set there are no markings to indicate where it was made. It seems to be quite an unusual design and something I've not seen before. Appreciate if anyone is able to offer information about this. I believe it has been in the family for well over 50 years, probably more.

Pictures of the base, please. Even when unmarked, it can be a clue.

Thanks for your reply. I have attached photos of the base of a saucer and a bowl. The bases of the other pieces are similar.

Search for Capodimonte style embossed cherubs. I couldn't tell you if it's from Italy or Japan, but there's a lot of it out there.

My 1st thought was Italy as well.

With all that gilding, the very white body and the exuberant twiddly flowers, Italy would make sense.

It was not uncommon for items to be marked "Foreign" right after WWII, especially from Germany, Italy & Japan. There were still a lot of hard feelings by consumers who wouldn't buy items from those countries

And here, after WW1. German items were marked Foreign then.

I've never seen that mark, but makes sense - thanks

Thanks all for the comments. I'd tend to agree with the product being of Italian origin. It it were to be Japan I'd expect finer detail and considering their skills in ceramics the finishing would likely be finer too. Any suggestions on how I might market this set given there are no markings and how about pricing?

Surprising how many products were so marked at the time.

There is currently a set on a popular auction site entitled:
Porcelain Italian Capodimonte Tea Set 29 Pieces Dessert Plates & Demitasse Cups

It is larger set than yours and they are asking $637.45 down from $749.99. The interesting part is that their are five watchers. So I would assume some their is some interest but this seller is asking way too much. Much to my surprise the auction site actually has a Capodimonte category under the China and Dinnerware category. You should be able to search completed and sold items under Capodimonte to find the sweet spot that will allow for a sale at the best price to meet your needs.

My pleasure. Welcome to the board. Sorry about the large font size. It carried over from when I copied the title. I thought I had it fixed but...
