I have no set pattern to my collection. I love the golden age of Hollywood and the Hollywood canteen. This started when my grandfather passed away years ago and some things that he brought home from his time in the service as a Fighting SeaBee in the 101st Construction Battalion was found in his closet where it had been on a shelf for more than 50 years. I was given these things and among the items were well over 200 unused postcards as well as ones written by him and sent to my grandmother while he was on the west coast and Saipan and then on to Hawaii.

I also found almost 70 signatures from the Hollywood canteen that I did not recognize more than a couple of at the time.Through my time studying all these items I managed to put a timeline together on where he was and when he was there.

I have everything from his original paperwork to his discharge papers and everything in between. I also have the US flag that was used at his funeral and put on his coffin. I have his work tags from Pearl Harbor.

The Hollywood canteen was a real showing of American patriotism and I fell in love with the whole idea that our country could pull together to do what they did. I saw a photo with the vice president of the United States standing next to Bob Hope standing next to I believe it was Errol Flynn or Clark Gable in the kitchen of the Hollywood canteen. One was washing dishes the other was drying and the third was putting them up in the cabinets. Can you imagine that happening today? Like I said before I was hooked and I wanted to take each one of those signatures and learn who they belonged to and put a face to them.

It was not a quick thing to accomplish but I walked away with all but one signature identified and I started studying on the life of these people who was kind enough to show a little encouragement to the servicemen when they were just about to go out to war. Some left the Hollywood canteen and shipped out and never came home. It's an amazing story and I have some pretty amazing signatures to show for it. During the time of me studying and learning I met some pretty influential people in the business and I didn't even realize it at the time. I met some real movers and shakers in the industry without even trying. So my collections run from autographs of Laverne & Shirley and Get Smart Don Adams and Barbara Feldon all the way to the Secretary of the Navy under Abraham Lincoln. And finally I collect Civil War memorabilia. I didn't mean to make this so long but I don't get to discuss these things with very many people as the interest is not there like it used to be.
