Hello, new member here. I'm the administrator in another antique group on Facebook and like doing Restorations and identifying autographs. I love taking an item and trying to learn about its history including old photographs. Also have translated before but it's not my favorite thing. Anyway, I am just an oilfield guy, a born and raised Texan, who hopes to meet some new people and learn at the same time.

Howdy Linny and welcome! A couple of questions:

What part of Texas do you call home and are you still there?

What languages did you translate between? (If you stick around you might find that this is one of the things people ask you for help with.)

Hello, from Texas. We have many Australians,(Aussies?)in our antique group. I will say good morning and get back a, "No, mate, it's not morning. Here in Texas it's always man or dude. I might throw out a y'all or call something a whatchamacallit every now and then, just to further confuse people. Haha
I was born and raised in West Texas in the heart of the oilfield. Yes, I am still here and have gotten out of the oilfield years ago.

German and Italian were the last two languages that I translated. A German document found behind an old painting dating right before the start of WW2 got me pretty excited for a minute but that was short-lived. Turned out to be a list of students from a boys boarding school.
The Italian that I translated last was for a document dated 1599 and that one was fairly tough and I had to break it down extensively to come up with anything solid. It turned out to be a document on the construction of a building that was being built at the time. Neither translation was too exciting but the Italian was a little challenging dating back as far as it did.

Yes ma'am oh, it's very early morning there? I think it was 7 hours difference between the central time zone that I'm in and Australia. I don't know how many time zones that y'all have but I know another member and I talked in my other group and we were 7 hours apart. I think they lived in Sydney. It's so nice to be able to talk to people across the world like this in a matter of seconds. It's just mind-boggling to me and yes I was a little late to the dance when it came to computers and the internet. Haha.
I started painting to relieve stress when I was 51 almost 52, so I've been doing it a little over a year now. Not much of a painter but I guarantee you, it does the job of relieving stress and I love it.

It's 12.00 noon in Western Australia. I need to find something to relieve my stress but I am just very time poor at the moment. I'm pleased to hear you have found a stress reliever

Sorry ma'am oh, I didn't mean to bother you on a work day. I need to be more aware. It's 11 at night here. Have a great day and hope to talk to you in the future.

So you're in a whole other Texas than the one we lived in for 12 years, a couple of hours east of Austin. We never really spent time on your side of the state.

Most people in Europe don't realise how much space you've got for 29 million Texans:

I needed that map to stop family in Europe worrying about us whenever something "somewhere in Texas" made the international news.

(This where an Aussie member posts an image showing Texas lost in the outback, and says their sheep station is bigger, which will be the cue for a Canadian ... ;) )

That is fantastic. I never saw Texas overlayed like that before. It is a huge state. I was just on the phone with a buddy living outside of Austin, in Spicewood. Willie Nelson lives there and has a ranch. Never hardly left the state in my 53 years. My family goes back pre WW2 in Odessa.
