Hey, guys! I'm new to the world of antiques, but I have always been terribly interested in them. My husband and I bought a wonderfully-unique big ole home in West Kentucky and it came with all things antique, including a ghost (no joke). There are so many things I want to learn about the different furniture pieces and odds and ends we have acquired. The house was built in 1897 and the previous owner lived here her entire life, so the pieces aren't "just antiques." They are tied to the history of this home; therefore, I can't know enough! I've learned so much just by perusing the forums. Thanks for allowing me to be a part of this friendly and helpful community. I'm looking forward to making friends!

Thank you! To answer your question: Well, after exhaustive searches on my own (having no idea of what I'm doing), I decided to search specifically for forums so I could learn from others. This site came up pretty early on in the search and it seems to be EXACTLY what I'm looking for.

Well, the previous owner was born in this house. She sold it to move to Miami. She is seventy years old. When she married the first time, her parents moved just down the road to what had been the grandparents' home. She married for the second time in the 80's and the husband, a very talented engineer and Mensa member, added on to the home back then. Unfortunately, he committed suicide in the shed behind our house several years ago. We hear him walking on the stairs from time to time. I promise I am a logical, level-headed person but it is what it is. lol.

Wonderful story KentuckyBarn, and sad too. The talented engineer wasn't the first gifted person to take his life, and sadly won't be the last one either.
Anyway, as long as the ghost doesn't bother you, it's ok. Maybe he is enjoying your company.
As Komo said, sign up the ghost!

Welcome - dust off your camera as we love to see pictures!! My sister lived in an old farm house in NC and she moved out because she got scared of ghosts. It was a beautiful old house on 30 acres in the country with barns she kept her horses in - and "rent" was 75$/month as long as she kept up the place. Something sure scared her out of there.

Thanks to all of you for the warm welcome. My husband and I are going to have to get an appraiser to come to the house to look at some of the furniture and make sure we are covered as far as insurance. We do have a Lillian Russell bedroom suite we will be selling because we have college kids and they don't need such an expensive set. Also, the dining room table and buffet will be sold because it's beautiful and in great shape, but just isn't up to our rambunctious family. With that being said, I'm going to start posting pics. I have no idea about any of this, so please share if you have any info for me. The little things I plan to sell because I have incorporated tons of them in my decorating and I don't want to keep goodies in the attic that someone else might treasure. Thanks in advance.
