    I found this wood box at a yard sale a few days ago. There are no marking to tell when it was made or by who. Anyone have any more information. Year? What it was used for?

    I'm with Johnny on recently made and artificially aged. There is a fashion for these old looking wine boxes/caskets. Many are nice, but not antique or even vintage.
    Traditionally wine bottles are stored horizontally, not vertically. And in racks, so air can circulate.
    I think these boxes are also made in Europe. I heard someone mentioning a French manufacturer some time ago, but I don't know for sure.

    The paint over the metal straps (which appear not to be there for any functional purpose) is very suspicious to me. Another vote for recent import.
