    Hi guys,

Just bought this cane and need some help. I'm trying to work out if it's chinese or japanese. I really recognise the double horned character but can't think of its name or origin and because of that I can't type it into Google to help! Ha

So if anyone can tell me anything about the carvings and if they are chinese or japanese that would be helpful. It carved onto a bamboo stick. It has writing on it which should also help identify its origin so if anyone can read that, I'd be very impressed and greatful!

Also, I'm thinking it's 19th century, probably 1880ish but if anyone has a more definite idea of age that would be great.

    Thanks guys. 20160310_113709-600x905.jpg 20160310_113649-768x945.jpg 20160310_113629-768x1090.jpg 20160310_113130-768x915.jpg 20160310_113100-768x964.jpg

    Images look like Japanese art.

Can we see the whole cane?

Looks Japanese to me as well. Decorated with Oni and Taoist Immortals.

Immortals! That's what I was looking for. I'm at work atm, will take a photo for whole cane when I get in.

I was thinking more along lines of Japanese but wasn't sure. So cheers.

Any ideas on age? Or you want to see whole cane before can say?

    Thanks again

Thanks guys. Only just managed to get back on the forum, been down for a while! Been doing some more research and it's a Japanese piece. Well, it's japanese figures like you said, so I'm presuming that it's japanese. Unfortunately the writing on it is unreadable. I've asked someone who reads and speaks japanese and they cant decipher it. I'm wondering if that effects the value? Could it be a tourist piece so it didn't matter what the writing said as the buyers wouldn't know and/or care as was about the "look." Though it's thrown me a bit. Looking at the cane and feeling it etc I believe it to be 1880-1900 but I'm worried about the writing? Though I suppose it could still be a tourist piece being that old?

Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

    Cheers guys.
