I had found the maker before but I've forgot his name. It took me a while to find it then and I'm sure it will take about the same this time. image.jpg image.jpg

It's really hard to see what the mark looks like with the shiny surface. Could it be Herman Kahler?

Yes, I do believe that's it. I bought it at Goodwill for like $3 and it had tape covering the marks.

Don't you hate when they do that? :) I'm forever gently peeling back tape and price tags.

The one I dislike the most, is when they put MULTIPLE price stickers right on the canvas of a painting. I had to soak to bottom in water to peel off the tape.

    Hi,
I use a hair dryer to warm the stickers, they peel off quickly and cleanly.

Good thought, of course I think the thrift might have issues if you did that in the store:eek:

Stickers are DEATH to good old vintage board games. Those based on radio and TV shows, cartoons and such. They ALWAYS get stickers RIGHT on the front graphics and they're impossible to remove. I've seen MANY a valuable game RUINED by thoughtless sticker placement. :grumpy:

Our thrift uses marker on lots of things that are hard to remove. Some do come off pottery fairly easy. Some use laundry markers…not good.

But some of the volunteers have an attitude of "tired of dealers buying things cheap here and making $$ off them" so they either mark it way too high or use a marker that is hard to remove. hmmmmm Everything was donated so any $$ helps, me thinks.

Talking about messing with a buyer, I bought two boxes of baseball cards from Goodwill. It had Derek Jeter rc cards, Harmon Killibrew rc, almost all the stars from the 80s, Rickey Henderson rc, etc. Book value, these cards were over $1000. I told a cashier about my find and shortly there after, I stopped seeing cards there. That's been over a year now. They have jacked prices like crazy but every now and then, you find something really nice.

My rule is to never say nuttin'. LOL A fellow dealer just a couple of days ago took a purse to the cashier and it had the name "Mary" on it. It was $2.00. She said to my friend, "do you think a Mary will come along and buy it"? The reply was, "it is a King Ranch Purse, so I'm sure someone will want it". Cashier "oh, that is too cheap then" and promptly marked it up. Dealer walked off. So I'm sticking to my never say nuttin' motto.

Yup totally agree. I used to shop with someone who would loudly ask if I knew what something was and what I could get for it on ebay etc. I don't shop with her anymore and avoid discussing things I'm looking at or buying with pretty much anyone. I'll offer what I can on things someone else is looking at or buying if asked but that's about it. Good stuff is hard enough to find without driving prices up.;)

I hate it when I buy a dish set all taped together, get home and the chipped ones are hidden in the middle. Now if I see a set I take the tape off at the store.

When I bring all my breakables to the counter I ask for a stack of newspapers and a big box. I like to wrap my own stuff ;)

I once bought this beautiful wooden Asian hand painted jewelry box,it had wide tape over the top of the paint. I took a chance and bought it. At home I began to remove the tape, well you know the story, it still has the tape after 7 something years.:arghh:

@gregsglass Thank-you for the tip on using a hair dryer to remove labels! I bought a set of Christmas lights and the price tag was stuck on the front, I tried the hair dryer and it lifted off without damaging the box:)
