Need help with Scientific Instrument?

Hey all. We believe this is some sort of vintage scientific instrument... I found a wraparound tag on one part which states it was Made in Italy. There are many various parts, all seemingly functional. The top cover will come off, and inside is a small covered pan type instrument. Any information or thoughts is appreciated.

The piece measures out to 13" tall, 11.75" wide, 8.5" deep.

edit: it does seem as though its purpose is along those lines though!

 

if it's from Italy it must be a foam maker for coffee....

 

Off topic here, but since there was a link to your auction I took a look at what you have. Nice stuff! BUT, a suggestion, for jewelry you will do better if you always post photos of the backs, marked or not. How a piece is constructed is important to anyone buying vintage or antique jewelry
