i acquired this painting for 10 dollars at a local second hand shop. i liked the subject matter with the buggies and horses trodding through the town. was wondering who the artist maybe? also location and age? thank you for any info you may have. town1.jpg town2.jpg towm3.jpg town4.jpg

Those aren't buggies; they're sleds. And are you aware that the frame's back is stamped "Hecho en México" ("Made in Mexico") although the scene is not Mexican.

Flag on municipal building looks like that of Denmark.

Yeah I saw the Mexico stamping on the back but like you said the scene didn't appear mexican. That's what's confusing me. I'll try ang Google Denmark

I would think Russian , but darned if I can figure out that signature . My initial thought was tourist art , but the more I look at it the better it seems . I think people are too quick to dismiss art thats in a mexican frame , just because thats the frame it ended up in doesnt mean thats the frame it started in . I love the colors . :)

Thanks debora, komokwa, and johnny. Now that you say Russian I'm leaning towards that as well. It has a nice detail look and the subject matter grabbed my eye so I had to grab it. Just stumped on the signature. Any idea of age you might think it's from?

Don't we have a Russian girl here...living in Texas......I haven't seen her for a while!

    Anybody know ??

    PS....sorry , I can't tell the age of a painting.

That's not a Russian flag. Red and white could be three countries in Northern Europe: Denmark, Austria and Poland. Given the painter's last name appears to end with "ski" I would think Poland most likely. Here's a photograph of the historical city center of Warsaw. Looks like your scene with a bit of artistic license.

Frame looks 1970s. And does seems odd that it and painting would end up together.

Now that's interesting. Not his work, of course, and not his signature. Wonder why someone would bother? But mystery solved. A decorative piece from México.

I found some online similar to mine and the sig looks pretty accurate to his. Is it possible maybe they just put it in a different frame?

Nope, sorry. Yours was... how shall we say... "inspired by" Chmielinski but that's not his work. Still, no reason not to enjoy.

The old town in Warsaw was pretty well flattened in the war, so what you see there now is itself a reproduction. Sometimes the first story is original and there the walls are studded with bullet and shrapnel scars.

If you look at works of his that are in museums , you see the quality is very different . Much more detailed . Its a lovely painting in itself , I was SO hoping youd found a treasure . So close , yet so far . :(
