Featured Need help identifying a pair of vases

Hello, I recently purchased a pair of vases at an estate sale and need help identifying. Any input is much appreciated.

I see a bit like a Meissen mark with star

 

I agree - Meissen crossed swords mark with asterisk at top. And piece style seems Meissen as well.

 

Looks like this mark was used from 1774 to c. 1814. Caveat - I am no Meissen expert!

 

Could Jason ask the factory about the piece? This would be very exciting to have such pieces in excellent condition with this age.

 

It was marked as a Meissen piece but the people running the estate sale couldn’t find it to reference for pricing. They were found in an attic and were a grandparents of the homeowner. Homeowner did not want. I have been looking at Meissen pieces for a couple of days but can’t find anything using any of the reference points. (Circular, woman, small gold stars, floral, etc...) I have looked outside of Meissen as well. Ran across this forum on my search looking for answers. Thank you all for your input so far!

 

There is significant wear on the bases, which is a good sign.

 

Here are the openings, that is a worn gold coating around the edge

 

I have found a similar mark for a Paris firm. "Arnold Rub Leprince marked their wares with a similar mark at the end of the nineteenth century. In 1896 the KPM Meissen took out a strict injunction against the use of the mark. It had been ascertained that the mark had been registered with the Klg Amtsgericht Leipzig as a trademark on 20th May 1892" This is a quote from my book "Dictionary of European Porcelain" It was the nearest mark I could find.

 

Interesting that you would say that. My first impression on seeing these was that they were French. I wish I could say why - something about combination of the stars, the moon flask shape, the twig feet, and the way the women are depicted. These also strike me as more of a circa 1890 design than a late 1700's or early 1800's design. I don't think these are modern unless deliberately meant to fool. To much trouble went into them. I think kikoblueeyes gave you the best advice in that it might be worth the effort to contact Meissen. Regardless, they are absolutely lovely. I'd have snatched them right up.

Pretty as they are, still don't think these are so old and Meissen, I saw that blurry mark. @Jason76 please let us know what you find out.
