007 (600x512).jpg 006 (600x515).jpg Picked this up at the Auction Today. Auctioneer listed it as Victorian Peach Blow, but I don't think that is right, Victorian maybe.....but peachblow? I don't know enough to be sure.
Anyway, it is Approx 3 " tall and 3 7/8" across. It has a white outside with a Pinkish Red inside, and a diamond quilt pattern that shows through. It is smooth to the touch inside and out.

Peachblow is in the mind of the maker, if he/she called it that....

It looks mid 20th century Italian. Mainland, not Muranno.

It's just a guess, but I think maybe it's meant to be used with the open side up, so not a hat? Maybe meant as a vase, small flower pot, or pen/pencil holder?

I can't tell from your pictures, is the white diamond quilt satin glass like the pink?

If so, White Satin Glass Diamond Quilt Hat cased with Pink

Is there a ground pontil? Or is it smooth?
I think Tom is correct in that it may be Italian mid century, rather than a late 1800s piece.

Thank you for your info. The pink is more on the red spectrum almost a deep coral color.there is no Pontil it is completely smooth.

I'm not sure what you mean about the white being like the pink. But as far as I can tell the. Quilted glass is only on the white part, the pink is smooth. You can slightly feel the quilting on the outside when you run your finger ove r the white glass.

Satin glass refers to the finish of the glass. It was created by exposure to hydrofluoric acid.

I don't particularly care for everything that is written here. But hopefully it will help explain what satin glass is.

It would be considered Diamond Quilted Satin Cased Glass. If it is small enough, it's probably a Tooth Pick holder.

The reason I thought it was more likely meant to be used with the open side up is the wonderful way the inner color shows through with the light shining inside. Upside down, it's much less interesting looking.

But I don't have experience with things like this, so could be way off base.

Thank you Pat and Fenton! I really appreciate your input. I too think it goes open side up. It's just a lot more interesting that way. I just really think I'm missing something here and can't seem to pin it down. I think it's a lot older then others think. I think the feel of it gives me that impression. I wish you could all feel it. It seems to me to have a more turn of the century feel to me.
But I defer to the experts on here, who are a lot better with this type of glass then me. It was in an auction with a lot of Mt Washington glass, and this is not too far off base from that IMHO. I have seen some similar patterns on Mt Washington items, but no exact matches.
I think I'll end up holding onto it until I can maybe dig a little deeper.
