NEED CATHEDRAL IDENTIFICATION ON 19TH CENT ART PAINTING PLZ.

I found this antique art painting today at a yard sale.
Anyone know what cathedral it might be?

No idea -but perhaps the French and Italian flags - plus one other?

 

I was just going to ask that too, Davey. On the Italian flag, the central stripe is plain white and this one appears to have something added.

 

The other odd thing about this picture is the pews instead of a central aisle with pews on either side.

 

Good call - I didn't notice the decoration on the middle stripe.

 

Gothic. Ceiling has pendant vaults. Rare architectural feature. Here's a list of churches that have.

I think its the French, Italian and German empire flag. The flag of the Kingdom of Italy can be with or without the coat of arms.

 

in what war were they fighting together ?

 

What does three flags displayed in a church have to do with war?
(on a side note in the Cathédrale Saint-Louis-des-Invalides you find the flagsof the armies Napoleons defeated along with many French ones)

 

Why would you have the flags of three different countries displayed together unless they represented some kind of pact? Somebody was hosting something.

I have really nothing substantial to add. I don't think this is a cathedral. It looks to me to be a very small chapel, probably a private one, maybe a part of some palace.
