This pic is from an upcoming estate sale. Kind of caught my eye -- not just your every day rhinestone necklace. Open backs on the stones --no idea how much they will be asking but wanted to be ready. Any idea what keywords would I use to find comparable pieces on Ebay just to get a sense of what resale it might have? Thanks.

My response is "ooh pretty"! The clasp was in use from the late 50s into the early 70s. The length of the shortest strand will tell you the age, but I suspect late 60s. I'ts a multi-strand prong-set unfoiled rhinestone necklace. I've never seen another one quite like that; usually those settings are on single strand pieces.

Thanks, Evelyb. I know -- same here, never seen one quite like this. Each stone is individually set with prongs and two round links. If it wasn't 5 strands I might have thought it was earlier. I can't quite see the end of the clasp but there seems to be a large glass or crystal feature on it. Happy to hear other thoughts on this piece, too. No idea if I will be near the first at the estate sale jewelry to have a chance at it (and even if I am they may have it seriously overpriced) but like I said, want to go in ready with my own price point, keeping in mind that condition is important. Still hoping to find something similar online. It seems like of unique to me. Thanks!

Would this be called a Bib necklace? Just been trying to look and I’m not familiar with the right terms.

Thanks INH. I don't think "bib necklace" for this exactly -- but just had an idea how to maybe look for similar. I just Ebay searched "prong set strand necklace" and that had 23 matches, got lucky and found just one that was very similar to this (although just 2 strands).

This gives me a ball park number (in that a 2 strand is unsold w/a BIN at $125).

@evelyb30, Hi, can you tell me what you mean in the showing multi-strand Rhinestone Necklace....."The length of the shortest strand will tell you the age"? Thanks......I don't understand, that's all!!

Women had smaller necks in the 20s and 30s, and indeed up into the 60s. If the shortest strand is very short, it means older. I'd agree this looks 60s ish. Those bar and chain fastenings were very popular then.

I just wanted to say how lovely this necklace is! You should buy it at the estate sale (if it's the right price). Makes me wish I had my youthful neck again.

If I found this one I would be too busy stashing it in my hoard to sell it. :) If it were rock crystal and sterling it would be around my neck instead of in the hoard....

If the price is right and its still there, trust me, I'll get it. And like Eve it would probably go into my hoard, etc.

Ironically I think this piece is a bit hard for online resale. People who buy jewelry all the time know that this is kind of unique piece and probably better made than most -- but for the average person, it is uncolored glass and unsigned, not attributed to any maker, so hard to understand just from a photo how amazing it probably is.

I thought it was interesting that the 2 strand one on Ebay was purported to belong to an antique dealer's estate. This is just the kind of thing an antique dealer would hoard.

    Well, I'm an antique dealer...;)

This sort of thing sells well in person, if you put it in a case and light it. It's harder to sell on line.

I'd hoard and wear that, too.

I'll post photos in a day or two. :) It was a bit lighter weight than I expected but at $2 could not put it in my bag fast enough. BTW, I took Evelyb's tip from years ago to ALWAYS BRING A CLEAR ZIPLOCK BAG to estate sales w/jewelry. I was the only one who had such a bag and it really came in handy. Also came with matching screw back earrings ! (for another $2). Set is not sterling, but each stone is open backed with the point showing in the back and both pieces are pristine. It's pretty awesome.
