    Hi,
I would like some help with this, please. I rarely buy native cause it’s too confusing and I do t want to buy the newer stuff. Just too hard to tell sometimes between the nice older and the newer. Anywho, I think this has decent age. I looked over the native mark site but I don’t know what to look for as the mark has me stumped. I thought it was an F but upon closer inspection, I’m not sure what the heck it is.
Would the turquoise be Royston? I think these beads are Navajo. Please help on any details you can

    thank you

Does the mark look like a letter or a salamander? Lol

    It's nice!
I think the piece is Navajo. I love the bench beads.
Looks 1970s-80s style to me. The clasp is machine made. It is strung on jewelry wire and not chain, which also tells me it is modern.
Of course there's a chance it was restrung.
Turquoise can be really hard to pin down origin. It can be from any number of mines.
Royston is a decent guess, but no one can know for sure.

I concur.......more or less.........because even having sold some in the early 90's , I never really liked the shadow box style .
The interior always gets full of gunk, and hair, and dust....& it never comes out..

I figured 70’s I was just hoping it was not 90’s or newer

I do think it's 1970s and from a high end department store. Mine was.

Department store? Ok, would not have guessed that. Hmm

Yes, HIGH END department store. I think mine was originally purchased at an old New Orleans store called "Godchaux" and trust me when I tell you it was high end! :)

It’s a Navajo piece, although I don’t recognize the mark. I agree with the 40-50 year age estimate, however I’d be hesitant to think it was a department store purchase.

there’s no reason to believe that it’s not sterling, and as such a marking would have been required for commercial sale. Just a thought

It is a good piece, and I agree that it is most likely Navajo. I can't find the mark in my books tough.
These were sold in SW jewellery stores as well as some other stores, including high end department stores, and they were even sold worldwide.;)
Older SW NA jewellery wasn't marked.

I agree that older NA jewelry wasn’t always marked

I should have said usually wasn't marked. I have had some older pieces that were marked, but it was rare.

Yes, definitely. Once NA jewelry “became a thing” the US govt required markings on items produced for commercial sale.

Thank you all for the input. I rarely ever buy NA and don’t know much of anything about it. This piece called me

Yah, I was never able to find a mark on mine, which is not identical to this one, just same genre and circa.

I agree. I am not a huge fan of shadowboxes either, but I like the elegantly subtle cut design above this one, and the bench beads are beautiful too.

Ok, I’ve figured out it’s likely a pictorial mark. I’ve looked through a bunch and no matches so far
