    Hi,
I have this basket - I think is from Lillooet. Has some serious damage, not sure if it is worth listing this way.
The size is 6 1/4"H x 8 3/4" across the top. I don't think it would have had a lid.
    Any ideas or information appreciated.
    thanks for looking.

    Salish basket...1920's
    of below avg size
    made for sale
there's so many on ebay that even listed for $10 ...it won't sell.
The damage is just too great for it to be anything but a small plant holder out on the back porch ...

A broken basket ...will always be just that....a broken basket..!

thanks komokwa! So I figured this out then, Lillooet is correct?
It can hang around inside, too wet outside for it:)

I do feel sorry for the broken baskets, because even broken one can appreciate the skill that went into their making, and when one thinks of the generations handing down those skills, grandmothers and mothers to daughters..... It is a wonderful thing.

I agree all_fakes, the skill in making baskets and other items is quit amazing. I have a fellow that comes in my store, he has now retired and taken up weaving hats. He remembers his grandmother making them and wished he had paid attention but then it wasn't something that boys did. He has connected with a group that has been helping him - the two I've seen are wonderful!

I had a nice, but damaged, basket that was fairly flat so I hung it on the wall. Someone visiting was critical until I explained it wasn't a mass produced item from Christmas Tree shop. They appreciated the artistry after that.

They likely would have understood it better had it not been in disrepair .

Yes, but it was still beautiful. I ended up giving it to a friend who really liked it.
