Picked up another NA item. Stands 1 5/8" tall and measures 2 1/2" square. Has a different picture on each side. Unmarked....another Santo Domingo Zia Pueblo looking item. Would this have had a lid?

Will that other square piece with the peg that you have fit on this as a lid?

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

I think it's a match, I really do! Gives a purpose for the knob, too.

    Brilliant, SIS!

So then do I call it a covered box? Where is Tapu? :(

I've been away for a couple weeks, without reliable cell or internet service, so am still catching up on the posts I've missed. I just answered your other question about this lid, and a bowl. I should have checked this post first! I think the mystery is solved. Sure looks like they belong together, even if it isn't a standard lid design. "Covered box" sounds right.

The designs, by the way, are influenced by ancient Mimbres patterns. There are potters at Acoma who do a lot of that style, so seeing the two pieces together, with the other birds, fish, and lizard, this could even be contemporary Acoma. Some potters there have departed from the traditional black and white and are making this type of pottery. It's unusual that it isn't signed, in that case, though.
