Name that rock

In other than direct light it looks mostly black but at about 45 degrees it looks almost metallic

 

It's kind of hard to tell in the video. I see a gold color around the edges, and some lines going across the stone. If I had to make a guess it would be that it is a Tigers Eye.....although I do not see the movement in the sheen that I would expect to see in a Tigers eye, But that was my first impression from the video.

 

It reminds me of tiger eye only it is mostly black. Would black tourmaline have those lines?

 

Black Tourmaline COULD....but it SHOULDN'T. It could also likely be black sapphire.That would be my second guess. The lines are what would cause a Star in a black saphirre if they were aligned properly. It's gives the stone what they call Chatoyance. Look at some Natural Star Sapphires on eBay and you will see the lines. The more I think about it, the more I think your stones are sapphire.

Yeah I know there is no star. It has to be cut in cabochon to form for that, and the lines have to intersect just right. but the same thing that makes the star, would be the thing that gives your stone the metallic sheen.

 

Look at the sheen on this sapphire. It reminds me a lot of what you have.

Labradorite I think

 

I have lots of tiger eye slabs and some of the edges and the "throw away" has more black than the gold.

 

I'd guess tiger eye as well. I've had a lot of it over the years and some is darker. I liked the music, too!
