Any idea what this is? Came in a lot of textiles/fabric, much looks Indian possibly. Not sure if this writing could be Hindi? Lote doesn’t seem to be a word in Hindi. Could bexamjthed Indian language. Could be Spanish for sure. The piece looks more Indian than Spanish. I really have no idea. Looks the be commentating something or possibly a version of a trophy or something. It’s probably around 2 1/2-3ft long or so. The mark is in Spanish or Portuguese, so unlikely to be Indian. Unless it's from Macao or something - that would make sense.

Agencia is a Spanish word. Frankly I don't see anything Indian.
Goa is the former Portuguese colony you're looking for.;) Macao, also former Portuguese, is near Hongkong.

Spanish or Portuguese. "Agency." "Magno." "Lot #1." Can't read what follows. It's a decorative household piece. Table cover, I'd think. Not atypical of its period.

That's true but... In Spanish and Portuguese, typically accents aren't utilized on capital letters.

Well, I did find an Agencia Magno in Cascais that's a funeral home. Was in business in 1967.

Here's another mention from Portugal's ABC newspaper in 1920. May be the same/may be different.

Frankly, it does look like a surround for a catafalque.:bag:

Thanks Deb! AJ it does look more likely to hang than to lay imo. Interesting that it could be connected to a funeral home. A bit creepy but oh well. I’ll try to get photos of some of the other pieces in the lot tomorrow. Some fancy colorful stuff in there.

Not sure that it's connected to a funeral home. But that's the only Agencia Magno I could find in either Spain or Portugal. Would/could you post a photograph of the stenciling to the far right? After Lote N° 1? And here's the web site to the funeral home. You can always ask. (They'll speak English.)

We're all heading that way, and it might as well be with a nicely appliqued bit of velvet.;)

Ha! That looks like Pça. Anyone else see it? Or is my imagination overactive? (You don't have to be kind.) A cedilha would make it Portuguese for sure.
