Digging through boxes of Mom's stuff and some of one of my aunts which my Mom got when my aunt passed.

This ring was in the corner of an envelope from the 1950s. It has a cut in it that looks as if it was cut off someone's finger. You'd think it would have been valuable if she wore it so long it had to be cut off. On the other hand, it's a mess. The ring part is copper or brass and the top has been welded on. That part has been welded badly. You can see lumps of solder. 2016-02-08 13.56.42 (800x574).jpg 2016-02-08 13.57.04 (800x779).jpg 2016-02-08 13.57.29 (600x800).jpg It must have had sentimental value. My aunt was married three times. I just thought it was interesting. There must be a backstory there.

That looks like the type of cheap fairground ring that comes with a slot so it can be one size fits all. Could be a sentimental souvenir from a night at the fairground and maybe a bit of rumpy pumpy afterwards. Cut rings do not look like that.

If the hand is actually dead, it is easier to cut off the finger then slide the ring off.

Well it's wonderful for its associations, but there's not much left in terms of a jewelry, is there.

Ooooh! I've got one of them:

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

    I agree, AF! It's a souvenir/party favor/gumball machine/carnival ring made-to-be-adjustable. The backstory might be X-rated... I'm guessing that's rumpy pumpy!

    What a cool mystery!

The mystery is - which one of her three husbands gave it to her, why was it so important she kept it on until it had to be cut off and...just why would someone weld all that crap together? It had to be true love. It wasn't until I looked at the enlarged photo that I realized the ends are beveled. If it was cut off, it would be rough. Now it's even more confusing. She and her last boyfriend met in their 70s. He had an old Indian with a sidecar. They were well into their 80s and still bombing around on his bike. I'll bet it was Sid who made the ring for her.

PS: Wonder what happened to that bike? It was all original, leather pouches and all. I didn't really appreciate what it was back then.

I just noticed that you have abandoned this idea.
