Mystery of Madagaska ld ring

Car boot pickup years ago, quite large, anyway too big for me to wear unless on my thumb. Brass I think, someone had already given it a scrape when I bought it. It’s just the markings inside I can’t fathom as it’s not the correct spelling for the country of Madagascar. There’s some info online connected to the Mormon church but again not as my ring spelling MADAGASKAR LD. Just wondering before it goes into the metal scrap bucket. Thanks.

 

We spell it Madagaskar, so with a k, but also with the r at the end.
I have no idea what Madagaska ld means.

 

I really thought it might have been hundreds of years old when I bought it but the lettering discovered later quashed that thought
