A member of the eboo Antiques board posted this question, unfortunately, that board is close to dead. I offered to post his question here to see if we could get any ideas.

Below are the three photos he has. I did ask him if there is any kind of label or plaque on it, I am waiting to hear back.

    This is what he said"
"Anyone have any ideas what this antique might be? Found in my grandmother's attic outside of Chicago, Illinois. She said it came with the house when she became the 2nd owner. Think it was built in 1920s."

My thought was something for rolling oats? He then said:
"I had one other person say something with grains as well... but no certainty."

It would be helpful to know what happens when the various cranks are turned.

It looks a bit like a giant cigarette-rolling machine....

Maybe some sort of cloth printing device?

You would think there would be some evidence if it had ever been used with ink in any way. It's very clean. We don't know if there are any missing parts.

For drying photographs? I used to use something similar, but it was electric and metal. The fabric-covered drum was identical. Drying machine for SOMETHING is my guess.

OK, I asked questions and this is what he said:
"No label. The black roller has little pellets or something inside, so it makes noises. But the rollers spin, and those wood planks just move back and forth, but not all the way down."

I was expecting to see an old hippie van or some scooby snacks at least, lol.

Interesting machine. I agree it does look like some type of winnowing machine.
