Hi all I bought this for $10 and was excited to find the Mikimoto mark on the clasp. The pearls are beautiful and are definitely real. They appear to be of amazing quality with very few imperfections. The box is unmarked but does fit the necklace perfectly. I do have a few questions for the pearl experts here!

Is it true that vintage Japanese pearls were only knotted between the first four to five pearls? IF so it is clear that my pearls have been restrung which would make sense due to the age of them.

How can anyone prove the pearls are original Mikimoto? Can't anyone just take a Mikimoto clasp and string random unoriginal pearls on it?

How old do my pearls appear to be?

they are nicely graduated...the knots seem to be well done.....the luster ....from here...looks very good....the box could be any pearl box......but it fits well and may be original....
& where would one find a Miki clasp.....without it's pearls......

I mean, why would anyone separate a Miki clasp.....from the pearls it was with???

I'm a swine......so please feel free to throw them before me !!!!!!!!!!:woot::woot::woot:;)

    imo.....

If you polish that clasp the Miki mark would be much easier to see :)

I think they're gorgeous & would find reasons to wear them were they mine. Suspect strand & clasp were always together, based on how well the pearl on the clasp goes with the other pearls. It may have been restrung. Although very well done, that loose end of the bead cord that is visible in the last photo suggests this is not factory work. Total shot in the dark, 1950s?
