Featured My Christmas Gift.. Gentleman Portrait

First of all Merry Christmas and happy new year! Hope you all had a joyful holiday.

I've come to show off the Christmas/birthday gift I bought myself! Of course would love any opinions on him and his age. I'm just hoping he's actually the real deal unlike previous purchases.

He looks rather like Christopher Plummer if he played Mr Bennet from Pride and Prejudice!

Anyway, here he is, rather large but sadly broken. The hinge, clasp, and pin are long gone. But he's set in silver, if not a bit of gold around the rim. Painted on shell? Certainly seems like it.

Yes, gold front, silver back. That used to be done a lot with jewellery. And lovely rose gold, I like that.
You can have it made into a pendant, if you'd like to wear it. Christopher Plummer around your neck, some people would have killed for that back in the 60s.
I agree, it looks painted on MOP.

 

1965 was an especially good year for him!
The Sound of Music is my favourite movie, has been since I was a toddler. There's a few pictures of me in a straw hat and tiny guitar case spinning around like Maria and singing away in the kitchen.

I'm happy to have scored the gentleman! My collection continues to grow.

The miniature is painted on ivory (a thin waffle!) as usual, the mother of pearl is the backing!
