Mortar and pestle

    I just have to make guesses on this one, it really isn't distinctive enough to say a lot about. It is quite lightly-built, looks thinner-walled than many. Pestle looks like it would be hard to get a good grip if you had anything hard to grind. So was it made to sell as a decorator or was it really intended for use, not sure, maybe for occasional use? I don't think a pharmacy would use one this thin but who knows?

    Thank you for the info.
    Its been in the family for as long as I live. It is the most common shape found in our area, but I have never seen one marked with the number on the bottom.
    I know that you cant see from my lousy photos, but it looks heavily used, with many bruises on the inside and on the sides of pestle especially.

    ha...my Dad has one & I was going to photo it and show it off....but then I thought...it's just an average one that as a kid....I played with ....and it had such a sweet sound that I'd whack it all the time !!!

    So when you say used.......well Dad's is well used...but not in the way you'd think !!! :hilarious:

    Well this took a while ....but Shang's other mortar got me up to speed......

    Just under 3 x 3 inches.....
    I know it's more than 50 years old....but how much more ??? ... P1010070.JPG P1010060.JPG P1010062.JPG P1010065.JPG P1010066.JPG P1010068.JPG !!! :) All the dents & rim damage.....that's on me......as a kid !!
