Just left a shop today then looked in the window and saw this so I had to bob back in. It's bronze in colour but I think it's brass or copper with some kind of colouring on it. I have found similar examples online which are Moroccan. ~36cm Ø

Yeah that's what I thought. Doesn't look like it has been chased out. Rather it has lots of small individual stamps

No base? Often these are coffee tables.

Ah quite possibly could be. No nothing that I noticed. The lack of a wall hanging bracket on the back of it supports your suggestion.

    Looks like polish residue.;)
Moroccans often use these trays simply as a tray on a (low) table with tajines and other dishes. They carry the dishes on the tray from the kitchen to the dining table, and place the entire tray on the table.
Trays are sold as wall hangings as well.

And it looks great as a serving tray on a table too.:)

OOK...I guess it ' could ' be used as a ' small ' table top...... but the bumps around the rim.....and the fact that it doesn't seem to be flat...... still seem to preclude that....imo..

If you look at the ones in the photo you will see the tray sits on the four legs. The center of the base is hollow so your piece could absolutely be a serving tray for a base like this. Very common.
