This one I thought unique as it almost has a wood detailing on front. Sadly the wicker is pretty weathered....thoughts? 20240705_130647_copy_450x1000.jpg 20240705_130651_copy_450x1000.jpg 20240705_130655_copy_450x1000.jpg 20240705_130700_copy_1000x450.jpg 20240705_130710_copy_450x1000.jpg

I'd take that on as a project and paint the wood black and the chair white..

I was actually going to ask about painting it....it looks like someone left it outside and the wicker on the body of it looks pretty sad & weathered. Do you think it would help clean it up somewhat?

I'm embarrassed to admit that I did NOT see the swans on the front legs until I looked at the pictures in this post!!!!

I assumed that was what you were referring to when you mentioned the "wood detailing". ;)

I would like the weathered look if it was a tiny bit less distressed. Can the chair be oiled or stained to bring up the lustre like the 2nd photo that 2many posted?

linseed oil diluted in terps to bring it back (done several times )

( do my terrace with same mix 1 to 3

wait 6 months if you decide to paint

    What would the ratio be?

And will the oil/terpentine mixture make the chair smell weird?? I ask because I bought a cool wine barrel chair/table set for my deck, and the guy treated it with some kind of oil (which I cannot for the life of me remember what it was, maybe Linseed??) and the set stunk to high heaven for a really long time and eventually wore off....

your chair has suffered quite badly, I would still keep to 1 turp to 3 linseed oil

it may be a bit off for a month but it will be grand for another 50 years !

""the guy treated it with some kind of oil" if you don't dilute the oil it won't penetrate, ditto if you brush it on too thick !!

do one layer lightly and see if you want a second :)

    nb don't try olive oil

Thank you! I will try this. I'm assuming I can brush it on both the wicker AND the wood part of the "swans" right?

in a while you can varnish the wood if you feel the need
but varnish eventually will need restoring (even marine varnish ! )

One last question (even though it's not my chair, but wish it was). The chair looks like it has a lot of dirt and maybe mold/mildew. It is advisable to power wash first? Maybe using one of the lower pressures? With some kind of mild power washer soap that might get the dirt off?

It really doesn't seem "dirty", just mostly weathered from sitting in the sun and rain it seems
