    First is a triplet opal - does it look to you like it has been (poorly) repaired?

    Next is one that has an odd hinge, plus I have no idea what it is made of - might be wood? -, or what it is supposed to be.

    The third one is some odd stone - sort of glittery, but I don't think it is "fools gold".

    Pyrite = "fools gold"

    Interesting hinged piece. Yes, the first one looks repaired.

    Thanks, fig, I hadn't thought of that. Still weird about the hinge - it only goes down, not up. I donno.

    Bev, I have a large piece of pyrite that was my dad's, and this looks nothing like it.

    And thanks for confirming my thoughts on that otherwise nifty opal pin. I was fairly certain, but I have found that it good to have other eyes look at things. :)

    I have a fridge magnet made of Pyrite that I got out west someplace and it looks like a larger version of this.

    Could well be.
    Bev was, of course, correct about it being fools gold/pyrite - I just had never seen it like this. :)

    That last one could be mica schist.

    Most pyrite is ugly, some specimins can be pretty.

    BTW, this "stone" seems quite crumbley. It leaves teeny grains all over the place.

    That's a good indicator for schist.

    Wanna bet that if I put "schist" in a title, eBay takes it down?

    Yes Bob is correct, I have shist and I can break it up whereas I can't my pyrite:) Maybe you can replace it with a pretty stone ?

    Not gonna happen.
    It started life as a cheap stickpin, stayed that way for 100 years, so who am I to change that. :D
