Although damaged, had to buy it, very rare.[IMG]

    Congratulations on your purchase.

I honestly can't see the damage of which you refer.

There is a big crack along it. Very sad. Had to buy it though. Although I do not collect paperweights, I knew a numbered one was rare. Must have been made in the early days of Monart.

I'd have grabbed that, annealing crack or not.

Bear, it turned up outside of Chartres. You never know what you will find.

Thank you for showing it. This is a new manufacturer for me. Very helpful to see an example and a label.

Monart does NOT turn up here at any price. All I see is stuff made in Italy or China, except for some artisan American pieces.

Don, go look at Monart vases. You will drool. Founded by a Catalan called Ysart, who moved to Scotland. Ysart also founded Vasart. He went on to Caithness much later, did weights with a PY cane.

For those who don't know it, the Scotlands Glass website has lots of lovely Scottish glass.

When I had a shop in Scotland I sold many pieces of Monart over the years, including a lamp. I knew a dealer who went to a house where the ladies late husband had worked in the Monart glassworks. She had a standard lamp and a small table he had made. A couple of times on "Bargain hunt" and "Antiques road trip" I have seen them buying Czech glass and stating it is Monart. I brought one vase with me to France. I shall post a photo later. I do not have a phone or a camera, believe it or not!! My mobile phone is 14 years old. I have to rely on my other half for photos. I was told that they just cut up christmas tinsel for the inclusions.

dg The base. The pontil is ground away leaving a disc on the base. Quite a distinctive base.[IMG]
