    Calling all Jersey girls!! :)

My parents picked this up at a Bruce Springsteen Estate Sale in NJ many years ago. It reminded my mom of her & her mom, and reminds me of her & I.

When they purchased it they were told it was an oil, but someone recently suggested it might be a giclee? It feels multi-media w/ texture/dimension. Any thoughts?

    Also,
any thoughts on value? We don't have COA unless it's inside the framing. My parents payed a few thousand years ago.

    Thanks!

Should note, I'm not sure who the artist is? Signature might be hidden behind the elaborate framing.

The painting of the hands make me think this is not by a professional artist as there’s little knowledge of anatomy imho.

I agree - an amateur and probably a copy of the Dufner.

I was thinking it was "estate" as in fancy yard sale. He's so alive and congrats to his daughter for her Olympic performance:)

Around here they call those living estate sales. Draws more people than term garage sale. It is suppose to mean they are still alive but selling every.

I know that the company we contacted about doing an estate sale after my mom passed (quite a few years ago) said that because she didn't have a lot of antiques they would bring things in to add to the sale. Don't know what they might have added. I think that probably happens a lot. We didn't go that way.

JMHO, I agree, a very amateur copy of the Dufner original.

My folks (particularly my mom) just fell in love with the painting at the sale. It was dubbed an 'estate sale' as I believe Springsteen was moving at the time from one home in NJ to another, and probably cleaning house a bit. It's very possible they were told who the artist was but don't recall as they're in their 80s now. I'm going to continue to dig around and see what I find out. Thanks so much for your help!!

It's quite a charming subject, isn't it? Would/could you post a photograph of the back including frame? That would be helpful.

It's a bit odd to me that the Dufner looks like the painting it is, but while yours is also a painting, it looks (again, to me) more like a chromolithograph.

To my eye, it looks like something that might have come out of a Chinese painting factory. The girls' features and clothing don't look fully Western and the elaborate frame is typical for decorative pieces.

This is called "salting the sale". Happens all the time.

Good luck. Hopefully you discover something that would have justified that price tag! :) Or maybe is was just because your mom loved and wanted it (and that’s also perfectly Ok)!

I thought perhaps seeing them side by side would help. Seeing the back of the painting might also help.

And if I might add, how art makes you feel is lovely. I have, hanging on my wall, what is probably a rather un-remarkable little painting of a little girl in a dress. She looks nothing like me but when I look at her I remember how I felt in a dress like hers when I was a little girl. I love her.:)
