Modernist? Watercolor Artist Signature help Please

I am not sure what style you would call this painting, but I just thought it was pretty cool and interesting.
Painting measures 5" x 7". Cheap frame, on the back is written in pen
Christmas 1997 mom & Dad.
I hope this is someone that one of you might recognize.

Ah, so it's a gift from Mom & Dad and not the artist's handwriting. Have you opened up the back of the frame?

Yes it's just the painting taped to the back of the mat. No other clues there.
