Picked this up at a charity shop today. I see a lot of Soviet and Western German stuff here, but this one looked rather old and was made from a coarser fabric than the usual stuff. It came with what I had first thought were suspenders, but that I now suspect are straps for the backpack. The leather has an almost snakeskin print.

Edit: Sounds like it might be a German "tropic" rucksack?

Maybe East. The West German ones were better made.

Get better pix of the text, should be easy to ID from the alphabet/language. Probably not German asGermans tend to cross their 7’s.

Isn't crossing the 7s only done in script? That is the way it is in other parts of the European Continent.

The rucksack conjures up images of 1930s German youth trekking through the forests as part of the back to nature culture of the period.
The leather looks more recent, maybe a replacement?

The lower character appears to be “a-acute.” That would seem to point to Slovak, Vietnamese, Spanish, Hungarian, Czech, Portuguese, or maybe even Dutch languages. Maybe the upper character will narrow that down, or maybe OP will be nice and post a better photo where more text is legible. I’m guessing the item is either Czech or Hungarian. German doesn’t have an “a-acute” with the little slant mark, but it has an a-umlaut with two little dots.

Not Dutch, we only use a-acute in French words.
The zá combination looks like Romance or Slavic languages and possibly Hungarian

Here are better photos of the letters.
Below them, there also appears to be a symbol that somewhat resembles two crossed swords.

After the Z, the letter sort of looks like it could be a Cyrillic б.

It looks like zároč.... the č is Slavic, like Česká republika, the Czech Republic.
