I know what my new desk ornament does, do you? Can you tell when it was made? The wheel thing is about 8” diameter. http://wp.me/aMlEl-tl http://wp.me/aMlEl-tm http://wp.me/aMlEl-tn http://wp.me/aMlEl-to http://wp.me/aMlEl-tp http://wp.me/aMlEl-tq
Noooooooooo-ooo; fooled y’all huh? ‘Cept Terry; his typically curt reply contained the key word “Standards.” Before we had digital measuring tools for checking machined parts, everyone used the micrometer caliper, or “mike” for short. The analog mechanical micrometer caliper had to be kept calibrated. I think the Mikemaster is a set of standards manufactured exactly to various diameters between 1/10”;and 1”. The company calibration department checks the caliper against the standards say every month and a sticker with pertinent cal info is put on the mike. Mikemaster can also be used for training on how to read a mike.
There’s a large micrometer caliper in the left foreground of one of the crates we just got in. The wood box with lid removed measures about 15x19”, and the caliper can be set up to measure I think 12-15” diameters but only over a one-inch range without needing parts interchanged. The four long rods are the standards for each of the four ranges. Made by Fowler, a good instrument maker. http://wp.me/aMlEl-tr
