    Hello

I have here a fine quality micro mosaic gold brooch. It is presumably Italian, but I'm not sure about the gold mount.

Did Italy ever use 14-15ct gold as a standard? The mount is unmarked so I have been acid testing on a touchstone. Completely dissolved immediately with 18k acid, but 14k acid doesn't touch it for at least 5 mins.

So is the mount likely Italian, or maybe it was bought back to the UK and set in 15ct mount?

Thanks for looking, hope you enjoy the photos

LOVELY!!! Yes your are correct about it being Italian. Some are referred to as Grand Tour micro mosaics. Likely would have been stamped to the pin. I have seen 14k - 18k gold.

Gorgeous, Ratsy. It could have been mounted in the UK, or in Italy. My guess is the UK.
It is the Pantheon in Rome, btw.

On antique gold brooches made of micromosaic, the stamps were often on a needle.
    Very beautiful and valuable brooch.

Drool. I'd agree, plaque imported to the UK and fitted.
