  1. hi all

Just had some major bad news so working frantically now

Need to know the price of this book

    Sites like usedbooksearch.co.uk and textbookstall.com
    And even abebooks.com
Are all returning the book but not the correct is not that I have

Which makes me believe that it is a first run that has not come up for sale

    The title is

    Pocket metric converter
    Authors
Des burge Howard Carey and John salt

    First print 1973
    Copyright 1973

    Reprinted 1975 1977

I'm guessing the price of yours will be comparable to those others.

The prices of those seemed steep to me, but maybe not.

The French adopted the system at the end of the 18th C. I searched Metric Conversion on AbeBooks - highest price first - expecting to see 19th C books. Surprisingly (to me) the oldest book, and far from most expensive, was 1900. I think all the rest were after 1960, and most of them after 1975.

I don't understand this. Those books aren't old, and the information is so readily available electronically.

    But do they sell?

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I don't quite understand everything in this citation. But, if the book you have in hand states when it was reprinted, what you have is a reprint from the latest date listed (1977). Maybe you knew that, but you stated that you think it is a "first run" and I'm not sure what you mean by that.

What you're seeing is asking prices, not sales prices. I can't image that your book has any value at all. Not old, later edition and information now readily available on internet. IMO, I suggest you focus on other items that have wider -- and more identifiable -- appeal.

Around here, that would sit on a dollar table with no takers. Everyone just uses their phones.

  7. Thankyou for that

Yes I guess I could research research and on and on
But I reckon that is about the right price

I have basically taken internet pricing and halved it for everything

That way others could make their money back and double up for sure

It's items for in laws and they are elderly so spending ages selling something is not viable

Especially after seeing how fast life can change through my uncle

Life's to short at least this way it's more likely to sell on
And they will get to enjoy a cruise
    While still fit enough to

    Thankyou for your help

Be careful about “internet pricing.” Specifically Ebay starting bids are very often unrealistic dreams by inexperienced sellers. Use only prices realized from actual “sold” items. You get those easily via Ebays “advanced search” choices.

Or in the SOLD or COMPLETED options at the left. :)

  10. Thankyou for that

That's why I've gone half the amount seen anywhere

That way a few dollars less neg.. Won't hurt either

    What I like about 1950 to 70's
Is all items were made to last

    Especially the appliances and cookware
So if someone bought one now and looked after it the same as in laws they would still have in years to come

With that book to a builder its gold when reconstruction on building made in inches etc

And the other information books are good sources of history

Cookbooks are great at economically meals

Glass and pottery will add that final interior design touch of quality and era with finesse

I really appreciate all the advice on this site it's a rare find people who care and share

    Thankyou
