found this today, in a space collectors lot, loads of weird and wonderful nasa/space things

it was in 2 pieces as they are magnetic closing

then luckily found the piece at the bottom of the bag

whatever it is, its an interesting thing, only noticed that in the light there are almost opal type colours to it

the glass case is very nice, so looks promising

    any thought appreciated

It is opal, in the matrix stone. Great colours.:)
I have a small bottle filled with small opal matrix pieces, an Aussie souvenir.

cool thanks aj, do you think its got nothing to do with the case then?, as that could be a possibility, there are still bits and bobs that i havent looked through, just presumed this went with it

    I think it is unrelated.

Perhaps the glass looking things are bits of beach glass?

The meteorite is apt to be unprepossessing in appearance. Don't reject any homely pieces of rock in the bottom of the bag without careful inspection.

You need to find a larger meteorite like this one,3 inches long.

Do you have a gemstone tester? A lot of the "stones" have a distinct cleavage and could be gemstones of some type.

I can honestly say that it would be unheard of to find opal in a
    meteorite

I love meteorites. The ones I've seem all look pitted and burnt. At least evidence of passing through the heat of the atmosphere. Now I've seen slices of meteorites for sale that expose the inner surface, but I would suggest you keep looking in the bag for something crumpy looking.

it was the only one loose stone and it fits in the case right, but i have to admit that it does look like a boulder opal specimen from what ive been looking at

it does only show colours in the light though

the little stones where in this little bag which seems strange someone would keep sea glass in

there is a cool chinese space trophy as well
