Meissen figure with flaking glaze? how does this happen?

    It's paint that's flaking off. It has been overpainted at some point (probably due to restoration) and now it is coming away. Same as flaking paint on outdoor wood, but takes much longer as it's indoors and protected from weathering.

    I don't think it's a Meissen Mark. Rontgen shows similar as Edme Samson. I wonder if it wasn't over-painted after the fact, by some third party.

    I question whether the original manufacturer would have used cold paint.

    Probably heat from a fire caused that much pealing

    This is a restoration that is flaking. Also, this is not Meissen. This is Samson. He used this mark for copied Meissen figure.
