A search of my medal/ribbon books was fruitless.
Gold with green bands and a gold crown.
I thought at first maybe Australia or South Africa (Boer), then maybe Scandinavian but I can`t match it up.

The yellow was once orange, it has faded a little.
The crown is the Dutch crown, which is just a symbolic thing of gold plated brass, since there is no coronation in The Netherlands. And the Dutch are cheap of course;). We never used to be a kingdom, so no ancient royal tradition.
Still hoping for a republic again, royalty is not a Dutch tradition. The imposed family turned royal costs us a fortune. We even have to pay a wage to the children, in spite of the millions the family made in slave trade, expropriation of public funds in the 19th century, and other unsavoury acts.

My grandparents used to live in Nijmegen, every year we would go and watch on the last day.
My grandmother always had bunches of flowers to give to the people she knew. She was not the only one, so many walkers nearly collapsed under the loads of flowers on that last exhausting day.
Surprisingly even some soldiers couldn't cope, but they also got an encouraging cheer and applause from the crowd.

My eldest daughter completed the 4 day march (just!) a few years ago as a civvy instructor in the ATC

She could hardly walk when she got home :(

Here is a video of the 2013 vierdaagse, maybe your daughter is in it, but it is a long watch. You can skip to the parts where you can spot uniforms:

The people now give gladioli, in our day:rolleyes: there was more diversity in flowers. But that's why they rename the main entry road into Nijmegen 'Via Gladiola'. The real name is St. Annastraat, my grandparents used to live there in the 1920s.

I`ve never heard of it, however it sounds a doddle, Holland being flat and all.:rolleyes:

When I was 16 years old I did the Lyke Wake Walk 3 times, 40 miles (64km) over hills and bogland overnight just for fun.

Later on aged 17, I was paid to do a 9 mile (14.5km) speed march carrying full fighting order in 90 minutes.
An endurance course of 6 miles (9.65km) run across moorland terrain wading through pools and crawling through tunnels, pipes and an underwater culvert and a 4 mile (6km) run back
Next day was a 30 miler (48 km) march across Dartmoor wearing full fighting order.
    All done in one weekend.
No wonder my knees are now knackered.

Edit, I forgot there was an assault course in the middle of it.

But it does have dykes with no shade. The killer part of the vierdaagse was walking along a dyke with no trees at the end of the first day. Two people died there in 2006, now they reversed the route so that part is in early morning when it is relatively cool.

By the way, Nijmegen is not in Holland, it is in Gelderland, in the east of the country. Gelderland does have some small hills;). Both Holland and Gelderland are part of The Netherlands. There are 12 provinces, two of them are called Holland, North and South Holland.
I live in North Brabant, near the Belgian border, everyone just calls it Brabant. The southern parts of Brabant are in Belgium.

As I recall it was the heat that nearly stopped her. Blazing hot sunshine over a 4 day march :(

I can imagine. Even if she walked the dyke in the morning, it can still be hot in summer. The climate inland is different from Holland, where you usually get a cool sea breeze. We in the southeast are experiencing some tropical days right now.

We go to Belgium nearly every year - West Vlaanderen. Sluis is the only place we've been in the Netherlands, but our son has traveled through the country.

Did you ever eat at Oud Sluis, it had three Michelin stars. It closed a couple of years ago, the owner/chef was suffering health problems. He started a new restaurant in Antwerp, Belgium, which now has two stars, so it may be history repeating itself.
